Marshall, that the flight “was pure business.” Bradley, the two looked like “sheepish schoolboys caught in a watermelon patch.” The next day, Eisenhower had to explain to his boss, Gen. ![]() Quesada brought Eisenhower back safely, though both men received reprimands for their joyride. ![]() Eventually, Quesada recalled, “I started getting anxious about the fact I had the supreme commander stuffed behind me in a single-engine airplane with no parachute over enemy territory.” Eisenhower for 45 minutes contemplated breakout plans and watched artillery flashes below. Quesada flew the Mustang 50 miles beyond Allied lines.
